As an intrinsic dimension of the Centre’s commitment to focus on issues of discrimination and enhancing gender equality, members of the centre have been active in the fields of advocacy, whether through lobbying with and against the State and its policies, forming common platforms with other organizations and civil society institutions, and assisting in campaigns to bring about changes in public awareness.  The Centre has been actively developing many networks to carry forward these processes.  Over the last year, the faculty of the centre have been members of and initiators among networks of women’s organizations and women’s studies associations on a range of issues. About: The Centre for Women’s Development Studies(CWDS) was established on 19th April 1980, in the middle of the International Women’s Decade,  by a group of men and women, who were involved in the preparation of the first ever comprehensive government report on the ‘Status of Women in India’.

Transnational Perspectives is a journal of world politics and social policy with an emphasis on currents of thought which cross frontiers and unite peoples. Transnational Perspectives, founded in 1974, has three aims:

• To propose measures for order and justice in the world society;
• To suggest creative possibilities for conflict transformation and the reduction of violence;
• To encourage ecologically-sound development and reverence for life.

IASSCS was formed in July 1997 in Amsterdam, following a successful conference, “Beyond Boundaries: Sexuality Across Cultures”, jointly hosted by the Universities of Amsterdam and Chicago. This gathering was broadly concerned with the social and cultural study of sexuality, and drew together scholars from the disciplines of anthropology, history, sociology, health policy and cultural and gender studies. It was noted in the Amsterdam meeting that no organization existed which provided a forum for the interdisciplinary and cross-cultural studies of sexuality. The impetus behind the creation of IASSCS was the perceived need to address the fragmentation of studies in sexuality and to provide a forum for expanding and developing sexuality as a legitimate area of scholarships … (about 1/2).
