Advocacy Forum is a leading non-profit, non-governmental organization working to promote the rule of law and uphold international human rights standards in Nepal. We actively combat the culture of impunity that has thrived without scrutiny for decades by systematically documenting human rights abuses, formally building cases and monitoring detention centers and the information we collect is evidence for the necessary reform of the criminal justice and judiciary systems of Nepal.
In order not to fall victim to Nepal’s dysfunctional legal system ourselves, we regularly extend our findings into the international human rights realm in order to engage internationally recognized legal mechanisms. We work closely with Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, The International Commission of Jurists and the Asian Human Rights Commission. Recently, Advocacy Forum was an active contributor in the establishment of the Office of The High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Nepal. With the help of these and other concerned agencies, Advocacy forum has put Nepal at the forefront for significant human rights attention.
Started in 2001, by just 6 lawyers, advocacy forum has since grown to have 4 regional offices and 8 district offices in Nepal, and a staff of 104, (41 of whom are lawyers).
