The Basel Institute on Governance is an independent non-profit institution devoted to interdisciplinary research, policy advice and capacity building in the areas of public, corporate, and global governance (Center for Governance and Research), and offers special services in the field of asset recovery (International Center for Asset Recovery). The Institute acts as a centre of competence by combining scientific methodology with practical experience to provide applied solutions to concrete problems. Based in Switzerland and associated with the University of Basel, we bring together internationally recognised academics as well as practitioners with long-standing experience in the matters at stake, and work with a wide range of stakeholders from around the globe. Mark Pieth co-founded the Basel Institute on Governance of which he is Chairman of the Board. He has been a consultant to corporations, international organisations and foreign governments on issues related to governance, participates in the Wolfsberg AML Banking Initiative as a facilitator and is Board Member of the World Economic Forum Partnering against Corruption Initiative PACI.
