BNPS is an ideology based women organization established in 1986 by a group of committed women activist with the aim of establishing equal rights for women from family to state. The main focus of BNPS is empowerment of women, but it targets the society as a whole. It considers its role as a facilitator in social transformation in order to attain social justice, peace and development, free of all forms of discrimination and oppression by gender, class, ethnic identity and religion. BNPS directly works in six areas of Bangladesh: Chittagong including Sandwip island, Netrakona, Dhaka, Jessore and Mymensingh district.

About: It works in two levels. National level: Advocacy, lobbying for policy and legal reforms. Strategy being used building and facilitating coalitions, networks, and foras. In the grass root level, raising awareness organizing and mobilizing women, building opinion among the community for changing traditional mindset. The approach of BNPS is bottom up-program and policy development with the participation of grass root people.
BNPS is an implementing agency as well as an organization that provides supports in partnership with other actors in the area of women empowerment throughout the country. The organization is actively involved in networking, lobbying and advocacy at the local, regional and national level in order to change policies in favor of the women along with changes in traditional mindset. At the regional and international level, BNPS is involved with South Asian Alliance for Poverty Eradication (SAAPE), South Asian Network of Gender Activist and Trainers (SANGAT), Center for Asia Pacific Women in Politics (CAPWIP), Asia Pacific forum on Women Law and Development (APWLD). In 1998 BNPS acquired the special consultative status with Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations
