The York Centre for Asian Research (YCAR) was established in 2002 to advance the academic study of Asia (South, East, and Southeast) and Asian Diasporas. About 2/2: YCAR is an Organized Research Unit (ORU) within York University. ORUs bring together researchers from across the university, including social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and the professional schools, to organize and administer research, conference, and training projects, as well provide public profile for York University research.

YCAR currently administers research and conference activities with total annual project accounts of $500,000, and works with an annual operating budget for centre administration of about $100,000. Financial accounting for York University ORUs is overseen by York University’s research accounting department.
