Peace & Solidarity Internship … : The Women of Color Resource Center is offering an enthusiastic, self-starting, hardworking student an exciting internship in the Peace & Solidarity Program of a respected social justice organization.
The internship provides the opportunity to gather experience in peace work, popular education, research, public relations, outreach, and social justice work. Working directly with the Program Director, the intern will have the opportunity to develop leadership and organizing skills while bringing issues of militarism, gender, race and class closer to the center of the peace movement.
The intern will assist the Program Director with:
- Coordinating outreach & distribution of Runway Peace Project and PeaceGAMES curriculum
- Coordinating targeted outreach to local Bay Area universities, including Fashion & Design programs
- Assist with building military women of color and veteran network
- Data entry and web research to aid in building women of color peace network
- Updating Peace & Solidarity section of website (links, articles, etc)
- Representing WCRC at local events & conferences
- Co-facilitating workshops on militarism & gender in PeaceGAMES curriculum
- Generating fact-sheets/data collection on militarism & women of color
- Writing/researching for op-eds on militarization and gender issues for publication
Qualities and skills required:
- A commitment to Social Justice
- Strong writing, research, and communication skills
- Computer skills, including Word, Internet
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- An expressed interest in world events
- Organized and efficient, yet able to work with a sense of humor
- Women of Color, Individuals with Disability, and LGBQT persons strongly encouraged to apply
Interns are expected to make a minimum commitment of 3 months to the organization and to meet a number of work hours agreed upon in advance with the organization. Interns are required to attend an orientation session. Interns will be evaluated at the end of their internship and will also be asked to evaluate the internship experience. If the internship is for class credit, WCRC will provide the required documentation.
