The SF day labor program is part of the San Francisco Bay Area Progressive Directory.

Formed in 1990 by a group of immigrant workers, together with community allies, who envisioned a space where laborers could unite to find temporary work to support themselves and their families. The program is committed to connecting workers to jobs with dignity, safety, and a just wage, and to providing employers with high-quality work performance. Contact the program during our business hours (7am-1pm, Mon-Fri, 7am-12pm Sat), at least one hour in advance, to hire one or more laborers for general and specialized work. Our Women’s Collective (which can be reached at the same number and requires one day’s advanced notice) can provide experienced domestic and office help. The program is a non-profit entity and the workers recieve 100% of all wages (webpage).

About … not of the above SF Day Labor Program … but of its Top Organization, the San Francisco Bay Area Progressive Directory, which is an index to about 1000 organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area that are related to progressive activism and/or helping out disadvantaged people, plus links to related web sites elsewhere.

The directory is maintained by Ken Cheetham.

To submit an organization for consideration, you just need to send in the contact information that you would listed in the directory, plus a brief description up to around 80 words or so. The contact info can include any of the following: organization name, alternate name (such as an acronym), mailing address, nearest cross street, phone number(s), fax number, email address(es), and web address(es). You can send the info by email (preferred), fax, or mail. Alternately you can just point me to a web site that has all the info (though email is most convenient for me). There is no charge to be listed.

The directory’s focus is on activism for a more egalitarian world (progressive/radical/social-justice/liberal/grassroots/ etc.), and also on helping out disadvantaged people directly, and so it helps if your brief description indicates how your organization relates to one of those areas.
