Are we sustainable? As the sustainable industries event we are conscious of the fact we need to be leading the way and doing the best we can to make our event as sustainable as possible.
With this in mind for 2010 we have implemented a variety of initiatives to help Sustainabilitylive! work towards becoming a more sustainable event.
BSI 8901:
- Sustainable Development is defined by BSI as “an enduring, balanced approach to economic activity, environmental responsibility and social progress”.
- Sustainabilitylive! has achieved the BSI8901 standard which is a sustainable management system that is an integral part of how we manage the event.
- The standard provides a framework of good practice and defines the requirements for a sustainable event management system to ensure an enduring and balanced approach to economic activity, environmental responsibility and social progress.
- This is not just a “tick the box” exercise and is part of how we manage our event to be more sustainable and reduce the negative effects we have on our environment.
Green Print Procedure:
- This year ALL our print for Sustainabilitylive! 2010 will be FSC – accredited. The standard, from the Forest Stewardship Council, guarantees the paper is sourced from well-managed forests.
- This is another example of how we are trying to make the event as sustainable as possible. We are also considering the sustainable credentials of our printing companies, by looking at their supply chain and their onsite activities.
Carbon Offsetting:
- Faversham House Group is committed to reducing its carbon emissions and wants to be at the forefront of this issue. In 2009 Sustainabilitylive! worked in partnership with Carbon Clear to offset the carbon emissions of the 2009 event.
- The carbon emissions generated were offset by investing in the Darfur Low Smoke Stoves Project. This project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by helping poor families – in El Fasher town – to use modern sources of energy for cooking. In addition to reducing emissions, the project helps to address ‘energy poverty’, improve health by reducing indoor air pollution and it also reduces the pressure on forest resources in Northern Darfur.
