a community of scholars and students
SCCR is a multi-disciplinary organization. Its members all share a common devotion to the conduct of cross-cultural research. SCCR members are professionals and students from the social science fields of Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, and related fields including Education, Family Studies, Social Work, Human Development, Psychiatry, Communications, Ethnic Studies, Business, etc. A distinguishing characteristic of the Society, compared with other academic organizations, is that it is fundamentally inter-disciplinary and provides members the opportunity to network with scholars from a wide variety of approaches to cross-cultural and comparative research. Since its founding in 1971, SCCR has intentionally avoided growing too large, so that its members can know each other better, form lasting relationships, and provide genuine support to their fellow colleagues and students. For Students: Students who are part of SCCR have access to a network of student-friendly scholars who are experts in cross-cultural research.
Interaction with these scholars from multiple disciplines gives students the opportunity to see how they can better their own studies and make connections that will last them throughout their future endeavors.
SCCR is always looking for more involvement from the student community. The yearly conference (every February) strives to include student-focused events, including luncheons with SCCR veterans and student-oriented workshops. If you are an undergraduate or graduate student and would like to know more about SCCR, or become more active in cross-cultural studies (or join the Facebook SCCR student group), please contact any of these members of our Student Advisory Committee: … (full text).
