- Self Help Africa was formed in 2008 from a merger between two like-minded charities: UK NGO Harvest Help and Irish agency Self Help Development International.

Vision, mission & goal: Self Help Africa’s vision is of a rural Africa free from poverty and hunger.
The organisation’s mission is to provide practical support to rural communities through capacity building,through participatory partnerships and to promote learning, dissemination, and advocacy.
Self Help Africa will seek to made a significant impact on the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and rural communities in Africa in the years to come.
The main objectives of its programme will be to support rural communities and households to:
- achieve food security through increased production of and access to food;
- develop diverse and sustainable livelihoods for greater economic security;
- Improve access to basic services;
- advocate for basic rights and better services by sharing experience through effective networks working at local, national and international levels.
In all programmes and projects there will be a focus on cross-cutting issues to:
- Ensure sustainable use of natural resources;
- Promote gender equality;
- Support communities to reduce vulnerability to HIV/AIDS.
