About 2/2: It offers course-work or dissertation Masters degrees in Development Studies and Population Studies. In addition, the School offers a diploma option and has a thesis-based PhD programme.

The School’s research budget from external sources is one of the largest at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and it is one of the most productive centres in terms of research reports, journal articles and other forms of accredited publications. We specialise in the following research areas: civil society; demographic research; globalisation, industry and urban development; macroeconomics, trade and finance; poverty and inequality; reproductive health; social aspects of HIV/AIDS; social policy; work and informal economy.
