About/News/Publications/Areas of Action/Activities/get involved: The International Movement Against All Forms of Discrimination and Racism (IMADR) is an international non-profit, non-governmental human rights organization devoted to eliminating discrimination and racism, forging international solidarity among discriminated minorities and advancing the international human rights system. Founded in 1988 by one of Japan’s largest minorities, the Buraku people, IMADR has grown to be a global network of concerned individuals and minority groups with regional committees and partners in Asia, Europe, North America and Latin America. IMADR’s International Secretariat is based in Japan and maintains a UN liaison office in Geneva. IMADR is in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

MDG-Campaign: By 2005 there were 950,000 children under the age of 18 years who had been orphaned by HIV/AIDS and another 1,500,000 who were destitute. AIDS is responsible for leaving vast numbers of children across Tanzania without one or both parents. The larger proportion of orphans have lost their parents to AIDS than to any other cause of death – meaning that, were it not for the AIDS epidemic, these children would not have been orphaned. The age of orphans is fairly consistent across all regions in Tanzania. Surveys undertaken by the Ondoa Umaskini campaign suggest that about 15% of orphans are 0-4 years old, 35% are 5-9 years old, and 50% are 10-14 years old. This has made the family structures fail to cope, thus the efforts by the Ondoa Umaskini campaign coming in to support the orphans. This is due to the fact that traditional safety nets are unraveling as more young adults die of AIDS related illnesses. (full text).

The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) is a regional initiative which was created in 1990 to promote cooperation between civil society organisations responding to and attempting to prevent conflict in West Africa.
