About WISE: In the 1970s, the need for better cross-frontier contact and communication became increasingly obvious to many in the anti-nuclear and safe energy movement. People's Watch

People’s Watch, a national human rights organization, is a program of the Centre for Promotion of Social Concerns CPSC. People’s Watch has been actively engaged in the protection and promotion of human rights in Tamil Nadu since 1995. People’s Watch has sought to hold the State accountable to its citizens for the chronic abuses of their rights and has worked to advance a human rights culture disposed to safeguard both the welfare and the freedom of all people. Now, after 10 years of work, People’s Watch has expanded its concerns – especially in the areas of human rights monitoring, combating torture through torture monitoring & intervention, and establishing a national coalition against torture by forming statewide networks all over India. People’s Watch has also expanded its human rights education & training initiatives throughout India.

The International Service for Human Rights (ISHR) is an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) serving human rights defenders. It was established in 1984 by members of a number of NGOs in Geneva to help defenders access the international human rights system. This remains its distinctive role more than 20 years later.

RIPS – Ghana

The Regional Institute for Population Studies RIPS is a former UNFPA-funded centre also at Legon specialises in the demography of West Africa. Together, these institutes provide a strong core of trained researchers with experience of work with a wide range of governmental and international institutions including the Word Bank, UNECA and UNDP. ISSR – Ghana

The Institute for Social, Statistical and Economic Research ISSER …

… is based at the University of Ghana in Legon and has a long track record of research on regional economic and social issues in West Africa. ISSR is partner of DRC Development Research Centre on Migration, Globalisation and Poverty.

About: ISSER was established by the University of Ghana in 1962 as the Institute of Statistics, to provide a programme of teaching and research in statistics, with particular reference to the methodology, collection and analysis of official statistics. It was also to advise interested bodies on statistical design, analysis and computer programming. A UN Statistical Training Centre, also established in 1962 to run middle-level Statistical Training Programmes for Public Servants in Africa, was brought under the auspices of the Institute in 1966. It was later realised that expanding the scope of the Institute to include fundamental and applied research in the social sciences, to establish the basic data needed for effective development and modernisation, would be beneficial to the nation as a whole. It is in line with this vision that the Institute was converted, in 1969, into the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER). The United Nations continued its support of statistical training until 1972 when ISSER fully took over … (full text).
