Nearly 97,000 mathematicians’ names are currently included in a searchable database … Also included for each entry are the mathematician’s dissertation title and advisor (« parent »), doctorate-granting institution, and the names of the mathematician’s own graduate students (« descendants »). Qantara.de

Dialogue with the Islamic World (also in german, turc, arabic)

The Arabic word « qantara » means « bridge ». The Internet portal Qantara.de represents the concerted effort of the (german) Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (Federal Center for Political Education), Deutsche Welle, the Goethe Institut and the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations) to promote dialogue with the Islamic world. The project is funded by the German Foreign Office.

The Travelling Exhibit: « Americans Who Tell the Truth » is a non-partisan series of portraits by Brooksville (Maine) artist Rob Shetterly. His portraits of past and current Americans form a travelling exhibit(s) that is hosted by schools, universities, churches, and various community groups around the country.

With this remarkable collection of portraits, Rob intends to remind people of the dignity, courage and importance of some of America’s truth tellers and, whether or not you agree with a particular subject’s point of view, to create dialogue that will help each of us figure out which truths we value most as citizens in a democracy.
