Focus and Goals of the Program: Central Asia defies any neat definition.  The primary focus of the Program on Central Asia and the Caucasus is on the newly independent, former-Soviet Central Asian republics of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.  However, just as these countries are intimately related to surrounding regions, the Program is intended to be a resource for scholars studying such areas as the Caucasus, the Muslim and Turkic regions of Southern Russia and Western China, and the northern parts of Afghanistan and Iran.

Human Dignity and Humiliation Studies

Breaking the Cycle of Humiliation

Linked with Yvonne Ryakiye – Burundi.

We are a global transdisciplinary network and fellowship of concerned academics and practitioners who are dedicated to ending humiliating practices and breaking cycles of humiliation throughout the world. We believe that through this, space is opened for mutual respect and esteem to take root and grow. We suggest that a mindset of cooperation and shared humility is necessary – not a mindset of humiliation – if we wish to build a better world, a world of equal dignity for all.

In order to fully understand the nature of public issues and possible solutions, the Institute’s program adheres to the highest standards of independent scholarly inquiry. The Institute’s program is pursued to rigorous standards without regard to any political or social biases.

The resulting studies are published and widely distributed as books, articles in The Independent Review, Policy Reports, Working Papers, and other publications. Events sponsored by the Institute bring together scholars and policy experts to debate policy issues and discuss their implications. This work is conducted in conjunction with a series of educational centers: … (full text).
