WORKERS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS! – “Right to Work, Free Choice of Employment, Just and Favorable Conditions of Work and Protection Against Unemployment.” Universal Declaration of Human Rights Human Rights Article 23 (1) All human beings deserve to go to their place of employment without being the constant victims of racial discrimination. All workers deserve to be paid decent wages to support their families and live dignified lives. The work environment should be free from life threatening hazards. No one deserves to die in order to make a living!
The Mississippi Workers’ Center for Human Rights is a worker advocacy organization that sees as its mission, providing organizing support, legal representation and training for low-wage, non-union workers in the state of Mississippi. Through direct action campaigns, organizing sessions and trainings, we seek to raise awareness among workers as to the many ways their human rights are violated in the workplace and in their communities. Through strong partnerships with our worker members, we seek to develop strategies to combat racism, sexism, homophobia and other forms of oppression. Through local, national and international networking and coalition building, we seek to build bridges between workers in the southern region, other parts of the country and the world.
The newsletter ‘AdvocacyNet’ is the flagship product of the Advocacy Project (subscribe here). Sent bi-monthly to e-mail subscribers, it highlights the campaigns and projects of AP and its partners. The newsletter is one of our main resources when we put together a package of support for partners. Back issues are archived here.
