Established in Brussels in mid 2010 as an International Non-Profit Association under Belgian Law, PHAP’s mission has been designed to respond to a growing demand for professional development and networking opportunities among individuals deployed in the context of humanitarian crises. PHAP is based on the recognition that humanitarian professionals, particularly from the global south, benefit from a remarkable range and depth of experiences.

Launch of Online Course on the Essentials of International Humanitarian Law: The International Association of Professionals in Humanitarian Assistance and Protection (PHAP) is pleased to announce the launch of its first Online Course, which focuses on the core principles and concepts of International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
This Online Course has been produced in collaboration with the Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research at Harvard University, a leading research and policy center on humanitarian law and policy.
This introductory course is designed for professionals engaged in humanitarian assistance and protection at an operational or policy level. Offering a concise and accessible review of all the major principles and concepts of IHL, it will assist anyone in need of a clear understanding of this domain of international law, which is of particular relevance to the work of those engaged in humanitarian action in situations of armed conflict. The Online Course consists of 14 sessions. Seven of these are available now, and the remainder will be published in the coming months.
This Online Course is offered exclusively to PHAP members, as a benefit of membership, at no additional costs. It complements the onsite Advanced Professional Training on Humanitarian Law and Policy, serving as a preparatory step for more advanced professional development opportunities. PHAP members who successfully complete the 14 sessions of the Online Course on the « Essentials of International Humanitarian Law » will receive a Certificate of Completion.
