The Guild of Service (North India ) was begun in 1972 under the Chairpersonship of Dr. Mohini Giri (Former Chairperson National Commission for Women and Founder President of War Widows Associations) with the mandate of empowerment of marginalized women and children . Since then the Guilld of Service has embarked on ultidimensional programs aimed towards capacity building of women both through advocacy and grass root work. All the members of Guild of Service give their services and talents ex gratia. This voluntary commitment is really the culture of Guild of Service. Its strength and vision.
The rewards are plenty- in the smile of confidence when a destitute women earns her first income, the sense of satisfaction when injustice is recognized and corrected, the sense of pride when a shy woman makes her maiden speech and wins the Panchayat Elections. The rewards are plenty but the effort is stupendous to build capacities of marginalized women and children. This is not just a mandate at the Guild of Service. It is the core belief, the character and the vision.
Construction of Ma-Dham in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, a home and training center for 500 women under difficult circumstances.
Training of Women Panchayat Presidents on measures to prevent trafficking in humans. This will enable them to spearhead village watch schemes to prevent trafficking.
Establishing a residential school for trafficked children and children of prostitutes so that they have the option of a choice of profession.
Educating 100 militancy affected orphan children of Kashmir. To mainstream Kashmir through fund raising three day cultural festival in Shrinagar.
Creation of assisted living complexes for the elderly.
