- The mission of the Global AIDS Alliance (GAA) is to halt the global AIDS crisis and mitigate its impacts on poor countries hardest hit by the pandemic.

What are GAA’s priorities? GAA’s new 2008-2010 strategic plan identifies the following core priorities:
- Achieving universal access to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care by 2010.
- Advancing children’s well-being, with a focus on prevention and treatment of pediatric HIV/AIDS, comprehensive care and support for orphans and vulnerable children, and universal basic education.
- Advancing women’s equality, with a focus on integrating sexual and reproductive health and HIV services and preventing violence against women and girls.
- Mobilizing increased financial resources and ensuring they are utilized to maximize on-the-ground impacts on people affected by HIV/AIDS and at risk of HIV infection.

What makes GAA different?
- GAA’s primary strength is our steadfast commitment to aggressive, results-based advocacy that seeks to achieve real impact for people impacted by HIV/AIDS. In addition, GAA has (1) established a reputation with major media and other opinion-leaders as source of credible policy analysis and recommendations; (2) taken on a strategic leadership role in convening key stakeholders and forging coalitions in support of specific advocacy goals; and (3) effectively linked targeted grassroots mobilization with media and public education.
- We believe in the power of an informed and energized public to effect significant social change. We believe that AIDS policies should be grounded in effective public health practices, rather than ideology. We believe that multilateral approaches offer the best hope of galvanizing sufficient resources to address global AIDS effectively. And we believe that government and other decision-makers can and must be held accountable for achieving concrete progress.
How does GAA work?
- GAA works with a broad array of civil-society partners, including US and global AIDS advocates, humanitarian and relief agencies, and faith-based organizations. In particular, GAA has strong links to organizations working on children’s issues, and we are one of the few global AIDS advocacy organizations with strong ties to the women’s and reproductive health communities. GAA has also established solid working relationships with major multilateral stakeholders, including the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, UNAIDS, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization, as well as with key decision-makers in the US Congress and United Nations. We also work with key government officials and civil-society networks in other G8 nations and affected countries across the global South, primarily in sub-Saharan Africa and India.
