About 2/2: … Over the past 15 years, Forum for the Future has:
- changed the debate about sustainable business by highlighting the opportunities it offers, and been instrumental in altering the way leading companies operate – from Aviva to Unilever;
- trained thousands of leaders, across society, through our master classes and Masters Programme, so they are knowledgeable about sustainable development and equipped to face the global challenges like climate change and shortages of vital resources;
- promoted long-term thinking and created shared, positive visions of tomorrow with businesses, government and NGOs, through our ground-breaking futures and scenarios work;
- sparked innovation of new products, services and business models that will make our world more sustainable.
However, in spite of our achievements and in spite of overwhelming scientific evidence, the challenge of increasing well-being within environmental limits is more acute than ever. Tackling global problems through small or isolated initiatives just won’t deliver change at a speed or on a scale we need.
We now want to transform the complex systems which serve our fundamental needs – such as food, energy and finance – so that they are fit for the 21st Century. And to do this, we are putting ‘systems innovation’ at the heart of our new strategy.
We will focus, initially, on three critical global systems that underpin our lives and the prospects for sustainability: energy, food, finance.
We believe that by understanding the dynamics of these systems, bringing together organisations playing key roles, and intervening at strategic tipping points, we’ve got a much better chance of transforming them so they function in a new and more sustainable way.
