- Children in Crisis was established in 1993 in the UK to give children in some of the world’s poorest countries the education they need to help transform their lives.
- Worldwide, one in six children is denied an education. At the heart of our work is the belief that education is the best possible route out of poverty, bringing hope for a better future for families, communities and over time, whole societies … (about 1/2).

About 2/2: … Children in Crisis’ vision is of a world where all children have access to education to enable them to fulfil their potential to live positive, healthy lives and contribute to the development of the societies in which they live.
OUR BELIEFS
We believe in Education:
- Our view is that education, in every sense, is the single most important development tool and our commitment and our passion is to help communities provide it for every child.
- Worldwide, a staggering 72 million children are still denied an education.
- More than half of these are in countries which have been devastated by war. It is no coincidence that conflict and poverty generally exist in countries with the highest rates of illiteracy.
- In response, a growing number of our programmes are in countries affected by war. The chance to go to school offers a much needed sense of security and a daily routine for children whose lives have been traumatised by violence and conflict. Education unites communities and can make an invaluable contribution to the peace-building process.
We believe in Working in Partnership:
- In all our overseas programmes Children in Crisis works in partnership with local organisations. Each partner contributes skills, knowledge and experience in developing projects which involve local communities and are appropriate to the local environment. We work closely with partners to help develop their technical skills in training and education as well as assisting them in organisational and resource development, so that they can manage and support programmes more effectively in the longer term thus ensuring local ownership and sustainability of the projects.
We believe every child has the right to an education:
- Children in Crisis believes that all children have the right to a healthy, happy and secure childhood and the right to realise their full potential. All except two countries in the world have indicated, by ratifying the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, that they too believe this. One of the eight Millennium Development Goals is to achieve universal primary education by 2015. Nevertheless, 72 million children worldwide still do not go to school. Evidently to succeed in this, there is still much to be done.
