day 9 of the op-icescr working group

Programme for the day: Delegations met around 4pm today, breaking up round 6pm following an informal “private” meeting to discuss the recommendations. While NGOs were excluded from the room, we grouped at the entrance of the room and were able to observe the most of the delegates who have been involved in the discussions to date entered the meeting.  Continuer la lecture de « day 9 of the op-icescr working group »

Programme for the day: Delegations met for the afternoon session, ostensibly to consider the report of the Working Group. The report was introduced at 5.45pm, and the Chair has scheduled a meeting for 4pm Thursday. Programme for the day: The discussion today focused on the question of justiciability. At the outset, the Chair asked delegates to consider whether economic, social and cultural rights were justiciable at the domestic, regional or international level.

Programme for the day: The first part of the morning was taken up with States Parties posing questions to Professor Riedel. These touched on the legal status of the Committee, the ability of complaints under an OP to deal with the “cascading effect of colonialism in the developing world”.

Programme for the day : Experts from different treaty bodies addressed the delegates. Professor Martin Scheinin examined the work of the Human Rights Committee and the First Optional Protocol to the ICCPR, and M.
