La Via Campesina promotes a model of peasant or family-farm agriculture based on sustainable production with local resources and in harmony with local culture and traditions. Peasants and farmers rely on a long experience with their locally available resources. We are capable of producing the optimal quantity and quality of food with few external inputs. 1. The pro-Taliban elements and their political patrons have made an issue of an Ajoka play « Burqavaganza’, which was staged in Lahore in March 2007. Five MMA MNAs submitted an adjournment motion in the National Assembly, which was discussed on 26 April 2007. MMA members used extremely provocative language against the writer/director of the play and director of Ajoka, accused them of ridiculing Islamic injunctions and demanded action against them under blasphemy laws. Although several MNAs from Government and Opposition including women MNAs wanted to speak on the motion but the speaker did not allow them. The Minister for Culture Mr. G.G. Jamal announced that the Government had banned the play and further action will be taken after a report from the Punjab Government is received … (full text).

A THEATRE FOR SOCIAL CHANGE: Ajoka has been part of the struggle for a secular, democratic just, humane and egalitarian Pakistan for the last 21 years. Few cultural institutions have been able to thrive, even survive, in the climate of hostility and apathy towards performing arts that has existed in Pakistan. Ajoka is an exception.

about: Today, more than 30 million people live in exile, forced to flee their homes due to war and human rights violations. Increasingly, however, the doors which host communities once opened to the stranger seeking shelter are slamming shut. Across the globe states are increasingly viewing the refugee as a drain on economic resources and a threat to security—a perception intensified by the politics of the “war on terrorism.” In this new political and economic climate, even the international law framework which protects the displaced is in flux.

One laptop per child

FAQ; privat policy; (future) homepage.

One laptop per child writes: Our mission is to provide a means for learning, self-expression and exploration to the nearly two billion children of the developing world with little or no access to education. While children are by nature eager for knowledge, many countries have insufficient resources to devote to education—sometimes less than $20 a year per child. Imagine the potential that could be unlocked by giving every child in the world the tools they need to learn, no matter who they are, no matter where they live, no matter how little they may have.

If you’d like to donate an XO laptop today, simply click the donation button on the right, above the photo. A donation of $200 will pay for and deliver one XO laptop to a child in a developing nation, $400 will pay for and deliver two XO laptops, and so on.
