Founded in 1974, the Transnational Institute (TNI) is an international network of activist-scholars committed to critical analyses of the global problems of today and tomorrow, with a view to providing intellectual support to those movements concerned to steer the world in a democratic, equitable and environmentally sustainable direction. In the spirit of public scholarship, and aligned to no political party, TNI seeks to create and promote international co-operation in analysing and finding possible solutions to such global problems as militarism and conflict, poverty and marginalisation, social injustice and environmental degradation. As an economist, I do something very unusual: I treat money seriously. Though this is hard for non-economists to believe, economists have it schooled into them that “money doesn’t matter” –that it is just a “veil over barter”, there to make it easier to swap commodities than it would be if you actually had to find someone who had what you wanted, and wanted to sell what you wanted to buy … (about 1/2).

Programmes and Activities:

  • Research: The NCERT performs the important functions of conducting and supporting educational research and offering training in educational research methodology.   Different Departments of the National Institute of Education (NIE), Regional Institutes of Education (RIEs), Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET) and Pandit Sunderlal Sharma Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE) undertake research programmes on different aspects of school education and teacher education. NCERT also supports research programmes of other institutions/organizations by providing financial assistance and academic guidance. Assistance is given to scholars for publication of their Ph.D. theses. Research fellowships are offered to encourage studies in school education to create a pool of competent research workers. Geneva Summit for Human Rights, Tolerance and Democracy

Published on genevasummit.org, by a coalition of today 20 organiziers and 9 supporting groups: On April 19, 2009, one day before the international community gathers in Geneva to address racism, intolerance and persecution in the High-Level Segment of the UN Durban Review Conference (DRC), a coalition of human rights, anti-racism and pro-democracy activists will assemble to place the most pressing situations on the world agenda. The civil society conference will be hosted at the Centre International de Conférences Genève, adjacent to the Palais des Nations UN compound. Organized by an international coalition of human rights NGOs, this will be a parallel event to the DRC, in support of its aims of promoting universal human rights through the eradication of discrimination, intolerance and persecution. The Lagan College

The College has as a top priority the well being of all its students. All staff have pastoral responsibilities for the social, moral, academic and spiritual development of the students in their care. To achieve this end teachers in their role as Form Tutors are given specific pastoral responsibility for a group of 20 -30 students in their Form Class. They are members of a team consisting of all the Form Tutors of the same year group under the leadership of a Year Head. The Year Heads in turn form a team under the Head of Pastoral Care and the Head of Discipline. The Form Tutor will care for the students in their Form Class through daily contact. They should be the first person to whom a student will turn for help or advice, although it may be necessary to refer a particular matter to the Head of Year, the Head of Pastoral Care or the Head of Discipline.
