Build Africa.org

Our mission: Build Africa works exclusively in rural areas of Uganda and Kenya to help young people escape poverty through education and income generation.
What we do: In education we work within local development plans to:

  • Help build the capacity of schools, communities and local government staff to work together to improve data collection, planning, monitoring and evaluation at school level, resulting in a ‘school development plan’;
  • Provide training and mentoring of school management committees for better school governance;
  • Carry out teacher training; and
  • Construct classrooms, water supplies, toilets, teacher accommodation, staff rooms, resource centres, as well as provide books, desks, etc. … (full text Our Strategy).

About 2/2: Build Africa is a dynamic charity working in rural Uganda and Kenya to help young people escape poverty through education and income generation.

Since 2004, our Build a School programme has worked with 115 schools and benefited over 100,000 children. We build classrooms, staff rooms, toilet blocks, water supplies and teachers’ accommodation. We provide desks and books and teacher training.

But most importantly we make sure that the local community leads each project.

We train and support school management committees and work with parents to ensure that the children receive the best education possible now and in the future.

Through our Build an Income programme we aim to create sustainable models for increasing the incomes of the poor, giving young people the chance to save, to work their way out of poverty and to increase the prosperity of their community. In addition the programme provides them with adequate nutrition and better access to education and healthcare.
