About: WHERE THE NEED LIES – Information added value: Afromedianet is a network of leading journalists and independent experts specialising in human rights, development issues and humanitarian affairs in Africa, which aims at fostering exchange of information and sharing of experience among its professional members.
The organisation provides global networking opportunities in understanding public perceptions and opinions, addressing misinformation with expert evidence, and working with decision-making groups to build partnership with Africa.
WHO WE WRITE FOR – Decision-making groups:
- Afromedianet provides expert opinions for media groups, academic institutions, law firms, business intelligence companies and the private sector, international organisations, governments and donor institutions, human rights and development NGOs, inter-governmental organisations, as well as other actors from the international aid community.
- The reports are commissioned on a confidential basis. The investigations, comments and analysis are tailored for a specific request and are a timely response for the only need of commissioner.
WHO WE ARE – Independent journalists:
- The network’s journalist members are internationally based, including regular visitors to Africa, foreign press operatives, correspondents and editors living and working in Africa, from whom the network sources up to date first-hand information.
- Members have specific knowledge, personal contacts and specialist experience of individual research fields. Information and knowledge is pooled on a complementary basis, according to members’ individual fields of expertise.
- They are accustomed to carrying out extensive original research and investigative interviews with a range of sources and local experts, in order to make individual assessments and to ensure that their reports are evidence-based.
- They have routinely and widely written on their areas of expertise in a number of respected African, British, American, Canadian and European newspapers and journals, gaining their international reputation as fair-minded but dogged reporters and interpreters of development in several regions of Francophone Africa including Central Africa, the Great Lakes and West Africa, as well as the Horn of Africa, and Eastern and Southern African countries.
WHAT WE COVER – The wisdom and the knowledge that you have lost in information – Afromedianet provides objective information and independent analysis as well as detailed investigations into issues covering:
- Forced migrations and human trafficking; the personal situation of refugees, internally displaced persons and asylum claimants; and how this relates to the political, military and social situation in their country of origin.
- Administrative structures in Sub-Saharan African countries, including research into local legal procedures and texts in order to verify documentation and to comment on the geographical situation, the nationality laws, the profile of indigenous ethnic groups and minority issues, local languages and customs and the impact of post-colonial borders. A particular aim in this respect is to determine the legal or administrative status of individuals.
