About:  SAFP’s core strengths lie in its advocacy work and networking skills. SAFP recognizes that effective reform comes about as part of a two-way process, both from the bottom-up, as well as top-down. Firstly, grassroots initiatives should promote local ownership and decision-making.

This should create the climate for force policy changes at the state, national and ultimately international level. However, at the same time, it is also necessary to engage with international institutions and civil society to promote women and land rights, in order to sustain pressure on governments from both directions.

SAFP has actively engaged with other NGOs to maximize synergies and knowledge sharing. This has proven to be an effective strategy, as it has allowed NGOs to share a common platform regarding the issue of women and resource rights and disabling mental illness. SAFP has facilitated and participated in a number of workshops and exchange programs in collaboration with rural and urban people, NGOs, state and national actors.

Through two forum SAFP coordinated i.e the Consult on Women and Land Rights (CWLR) and Forum on  Disabling Mental Illness (DMI) , for groups to devise common strategies to reinforce the importance of both dignity and rights. From 2004 till now SAFP has brought together various parties to develop local and state-level strategies to empower women and those in need of help on disabling mental illness.

SAFP work began with the advocacy to include programmatic interventions in favour of women’s livelihood and land rights in the Beijing+10 review process. This brought together five networks and 35 organisations in India to think together on the issue. Acknowledging their long standing work and building a common opportunity to focus on women and land rights, Sathi worked with some of these groups through workshop and documentation support. It now promotes women’s resource right agenda and development of women resource zones for which pilots need to be started by the government.

On DMI SAFP is working on a program concept called Aditha that seeks training volunteers and paid workers to assist the recovery of a person with disabling mental illness.

Sathi has been involved at the international level through active participation in meetings with UN agencies and their forums  such as WUF of UN Habitat, UNCSW, UNIFEM and UNDP. It is also playing a role in encouraging Asian governments to recognize the importance of this issue through continuous advocacy work.
