- The Peace Research Institute Frankfurt PRIF was founded in 1970 by the government of the state of Hesse as an independent foundation. Its constitution guarantees PRIF full academic freedom. PRIF does not carry out any commissioned research. With more than 70 members of staff PRIF is the largest as well as the oldest peace research institute in Germany.

What is Peace Research: The hope that the end of the Cold War would bring about a peaceful period in world history has not been fulfilled.
