• 1: The name of the association is Network Institute for Global Democratization, NIGD, Verkostoinstituutti maaailmanlaajuisen demokratisaation tukemiseksi ry. The association’s domicile is Helsinki, Finland.
• 2: The aim of the association is to contribute to worldwide democratization. Democracy is understood to mean maximally equal rights and practical possibilities to participate both in making decisions, which affect one’s self, and in struggles over the correct way of organising common issues. Another part of democracy is that everybody has the right to participate in defining the public and political issues, upon which decisions are made democratically. Democracy is an ideal, and a process, but not a completed model; therefore, democratization may, in practice, touch any part of societal life.

The general objective of Euronet-FGM is to improve the health of female immigrants in Europe and to fight harmful traditional practices affecting the health of women and children, in particular FGM. This fight goes through specific objectives:

• to fight FGM in Europe by finding a global solution and establishing a lobby aimed at eradicating the practice on all continents and in all regions
• to promote information exchange, sharing knowledge and experience

Who are we: During the last few decades, Europe has received thousands of immigrants and refugees of African origin who practise female genital mutilation (FGM). Consequently, several NGOs, governments and health professionals of various nationalities were inspired to explore means of preventing FGM. Info in Thai

• Our work centers on rural homestays. We have selected thirty target schools in rural provinces to work with. These schools have agreed to provide food and accommodation to our volunteers in exchange for their teaching in the classroom 3-4 hours per day.
• Though we teach very poor students in the most remote provinces of Thailand, our homestays are quite comfortable. Volunteers get a Western style house, a proper bed, bathroom, and three fine Thai meals a day. You will either live with a Thai family or have your own house in the community … (Projects 1/2).

• Founded by volunteers in 2002 in Nong Khai Thailand, Travel to Teach is a non-profit making organisation that links volunteers from all over the world with grassroots community projects in the developing world.
• Travel to Teach was founded in opposition to the large western corporations who use volunteering to make a profit.
