The Foundation of R&L: The Reflect & Learn web site has had several iterations.  During the first stage of the website project, Fundación Acceso, a non-profit organization based in Costa Rica, partnered with IDRC and Universalia to develop the concept and create an initial design. Unfortunately, for organizational reasons they were unable to continue on with the project and asked us to continue.  We want to thank Fundación Acceso for their early support and collaboration … (about History 1/2).

The Social and Economic Policy Program Area focuses on public policies that can help to reduce poverty and enhance social equity in developing countries.  It works to strengthen long-term research capacities, to support policy-relevant research on issues of immediate policy concern, and to facilitate public accountability by helping researchers and civil society organizations participate effectively in policy debates at the local, national, and international levels.

African Media and Malaria Research Network AMMREN

  • Who we are: African Media and Malaria Research Network (AMMREN), was formed in November 2006, and it is a network of African journalists and scientists working together to reduce the burden of malaria, which is endemic in most parts of Africa and the number one killer of children under five.
  • Nineteen print and electronic media journalists from nine African countries formed the network out of a media-training workshop on Reporting on Malaria Research in Africa held in Accra-Ghana in 2006, with sponsorship from the Malaria Clinical Trials Alliance (MCTA).
  • AMMREN now has a membership of more than fifty journalists in ten African countries. The current participating African countries are Burkina Faso, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania and The Gambia … (about 1/2).

Indepth Effectiveness ans Safety Studies INESS

of Antimalaria in Africa

  • A standardised process for evaluating the real life safety and effectiveness of current and alternative ant malarial treatments will be developed and implemented.
  • During the initial phase of INESS, the current first-line ACTs in Ghana and Tanzania will be evaluated. This will provide information on their safety and effectiveness, which is still unavailable despite their large scale utilisation.
  • Once a new anti-malarial is registered in a participating country, it will be introduced through the routine public health services in the districts hosting the selected INDEPTH DSS sites. New drugs will be evaluated using standardised systems to generate effectiveness and safety assessments which are comparable to those for currently recommended drugs … (full long text Research Sites).
