Aide et Action – Education changes the world

Education worldwide – an emergency situation: Even today, over 100 million children throughout the world, of which 60% are girls, do not have access to an education. 250 million children aged from 5 to 14 do paid work in order to survive. 150 million of them work in highly dangerous conditions. 875 million of the world’s adult population are illiterate – two thirds of this number are women.

About: Improving school attendance rates requires both improvement of the school’s infrastructure as well as discovering teaching methods appropriate for the local context. Aide et Action participates in building and equipping classrooms, providing educational material and stationery, teacher training and organising sports and cultural events. By introducing new projects like teaching in the local mother tongue or pro-active educational techniques, Aide et Action also contributes to the quality and effectiveness of the teaching.

GGJ Representatives Jihan Gearon of the Indigenous Environmental Network and Tammy Bang Luu of the Labor Community Strategy Center are presenting testimony before the Congressional Progressive Caucus this morning at 10am eastern. Tammy and Jihan are part of a delegation of the Inter-Alliance Dialogue to present on the theme: Voices from the Front Lines: A Recovery Package for Democracy. The delegation will present on a range of issues including housing, workers rights, immigrant rights and environmental/climate justice. GGJ’s testimony will focus on the impact of the fossil fuel economy and propose policy solutions compiled by our Global Well-Being Working Group. We will send the transcript of their testimonies later today. The event is coordinated in conjunction with the Institute for Policy Studies and the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Action for Autism AFA, New Delhi

… (we are) the pioneering, national and non-profit autism society of India. We provide support and services to persons with autism and those who work with them in South Asia. Founded in 1991, we are a parent organisation began with the goal to « put autism on the Indian map. » Awareness of autism in India has grown in the past decade. Our day-to-day activities now focus on a wide range of services and activities to improve the lives of children with autism and their families from an educational, medical, and legal standpoint. We are an Indian organisation, and our efforts are focused on the needs of those in India.
