The movement for tribal peoples – in many languages

Linked with Progress can kill, and with Peru: Congress repeals controversial Amazon laws.

Survival is the only international organization supporting tribal peoples worldwide. We were founded in 1969 after an article by Norman Lewis in the UK’s Sunday Times highlighted the massacres, land thefts and genocide taking place in Brazilian Amazonia. Like many modern atrocities, the racist oppression of Brazil’s Indians took place in the name of ‘economic growth’ … (about 1/2).

The BSC is a non profit, voluntary organization which is run under the aegis of St. Xavier’s Non Formal Education Society in Gujarat, India. It currently works in over 100 villages in three different districts of Gujarat. The Centre has been involved in the field of development, research and training for over 20 years and its grassroots involvement is with some of the most deprived and oppressed sections of Indian society. Primarily, BSC works with India’s Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes as well as with women with the goal of empowerment and poverty alleviation. The Centre believes that poverty, discrimination of any kind and underdevelopment are human-made constructs. BSC is committed to working towards the eradication of poverty and discrimination and the development and empowerment of the most marginalised communities of Indian society. Eklavya Education Foundation came into being in the year 1996 with a mission to revolutionize school education in India. It is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation established by young professionals, educators and businessmen to set up and run schools and teacher training colleges in a professional, modern and ethical manner.
Brief Introduction: In the year 1986 a company named Core Emballage Ltd formulated its investment philosophy, which simply put, is:

• The first rupee earned will be reinvested in productive assets (more machines and more sales people);
• The second rupee earned will go to the employees in terms of better salaries, working conditions, etc.;
• The third rupee earned will go to the shareholders;
• The fourth rupee earned will go back to the society, from where, in a way, all the four rupees are being earned.

Our Philosophy 2/2: … Over a period of time there was intense debate and brainstorming on how to spend the ‘fourth rupee’. Like a spring the beginning of all things are small. It happened to be the same with Life Help Centre when we incepted the tiny seeds of service to the handicapped in the year 1977. This organization started its service in a rented building at Adyar, Chennai which shifted soon to its own campus on 11.52 acres situated at Palavakkam which is towards the south of Chennai on the East Coast Road, in June 1983 … (about 1/2).

The MST carries out long-overdue land reform in a country mired by unjust land distribution. In Brazil, 1.6% of the landowners control roughly half (46.8%) of the land on which crops could be grown.
