About 2/2: … In the late 1990s, homeowners began coming to Self-Help Credit Union seeking help to avoid foreclosure. Unfortunately, it was too late for many of these families. Unscrupulous lenders already had stolen their home equity—their greatest source of wealth and future financial security.

About HRC: The Human Rights Center promotes human rights and international justice worldwide and trains the next generation of human rights researchers and advocates. We believe that sustainable peace and development can be achieved only through efforts to prevent human rights abuses and hold those responsible for such crimes accountable. We use empirical research methods to investigate and expose serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law. In our studies and reports, we recommend specific policy measures that should be taken by governments and international organizations to protect vulnerable populations in times of war and political and social upheaval.

HISTORY:

Established in 1994 through the generosity of the Sandler Family Supporting Foundation, the Human Rights Center (HRC) has conducted major human rights investigations in more than a dozen countries, including the United States, Iraq, Rwanda, Uganda, Burma, and the former Yugoslavia. HRC has used DNA analysis to reunite families divided by war and conducted population-based studies to ensure that the voices of victims are heard by policymakers. HRC’s research has been provided to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and the International Criminal Court.

The Center has provided more than 100 fellowships to graduate students over the past ten years, and its alumni have taken leadership positions with universities, nongovernmental organizations, and activist groups worldwide … (full text).

The Natural Solutions Foundation initiated powerful public response/grass roots campaigns when health freedom threats arise in the US including health-hostile legislation, attacks on natural doctors’ licenses, dangerous and restrictive FDA guidance documents and policies which threaten natural health options and the wellness industry. Each of these public response grass roots campaigns has generated anywhere from 100,000 to nearly 600,000 email and fax actions within days to weeks. (DID YOU KNOW).

This database was compiled to provide an overview of qualified African Diaspora professionals with varied areas of expertise and experience. The African diaspora contribute substantially to the social, economic and political development of Africa, and this database is set up to further mobilize this considerable potential. You also have access to numerous African diaspora organisations in the Netherlands and beyond whose transnational long-distance development related activities are having a positive impact on the development of the continent. This database is aimed to contribute to the efforts geared in mitigating the adverse effects of the brain drain in Africa.
