The New World Foundation NWF

building on partnerships to change the world

Linked with Colin Greer – USA.

Since 1954, The New World Foundation’s grant making has supported organizations working to strengthen and expand civil rights and the active participation of citizens in American democracy. Our commitment to this work remains firm. Our strategy is to support the building of social movements by supporting organizing, which builds a sustainable mass base of activists in viable organizations. We do this on a range of issues and among constituencies all over the country. Because we give long term support to projects we do not accept uninvited proposals. (Homepage).

Who we are: New World Foundation completed its fifth decade of grant making in the year 2004. As we continue our work, we expect the new millennium to be a time of continuing significant transition for America, a search for new directions, a battle between the past and future, between the politics of fear and hope. We see the strengths of progressive ideals and committed activists, who every day are inventing democracy and extending its boundaries.

The 21st Century Trust

Ford Foundation’s Governance and Civil Society Unit – The 21st Century Trust is a Registered Charity, No. 295676

… In an age of “small” government and privatisation of increasing areas of state activity, NGOs need to understand and influence the private sector more than they have in the past. There are signs that some large firms are becoming increasingly aware of the need, in their own corporate interest, to take civic and environmental interests into account in their activities. There are some of course who take a more pessimistic view that the exploitative nature of free-market economics was by no means balanced by a general obligation to societies in the developing world. Both sides are agreed, however, that NGOs would do well to spend more time trying to understand and enlist the efforts of the private sector in support of their causes … (excerpt one of long text of « Global Civil Society »).
