The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) is a regional initiative which was created in 1990 to promote cooperation between civil society organisations responding to and attempting to prevent conflict in West Africa. An integral part of its service is peace education and the West Africa Early Warning Network (WARN). Its website provides information on the aims, membership and recent activities of the network. It includes acces to press releases and some policy briefs on particular situations. A Brief Overview of The Nippon Foundation: The Nippon Foundation was founded in 1962 as an organization that concerned itself primarily with the maritime industry. Since then, however, our sphere of activity has expanded inland from the oceans to the point where now it encompasses most of the globe. The fruits of our labor can be found from sub-Sahelian Africa, to the Malacca-Singapore Straits and the rain forests of South America. In fact, our efforts can be seen just about anywhere on earth where members of the human race live and dream. To us, this work is the obligation, and the joy, of being human. (full text).

About: From the Chairman – When The Nippon Foundation was established some forty years ago, the statement, ‘The world is one family: All mankind are brothers and sisters,’ may not have made much sense to many people. At the time, the world was far from being one family. Instead, it was in a precarious position where the slightest provocation by the Super Powers could lead to an eruption of war. Fear, not hope, dominated the world. But it was during this time of tension and despair that the late Ryoichi Sasakawa, my father and the founder of our Foundation, dreamed of working for a better world.

About: The Southern African Regional Poverty Network (SARPN) is a non-profit organisation that promotes debate and knowledge sharing on poverty reduction processes and experiences in Southern Africa. SARPN aims to contribute towards effective reduction of poverty in the countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) through creating platforms for effective pro-poor policy, strategy and practice.

SARPN achieves this goal through widening participation, bringing people together across the region to exchange ideas, and disseminating information to deepen understandings of poverty issues and improve policy and practice.
