The Centre conducts research on good practices, encourages the development of appropriate norms at the national and international levels, makes policy recommendations and provides in-country advice and assistance programmes. DCAF&rsquo;s partners include governments, parliaments, civil society, international organisations and the range of security sector actors such as police, judiciary, intelligence agencies, border security services and the military.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcaf.ch\/activities\/index.cfm?nav1=3\">Activities<\/a>;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcaf.ch\/news\/index.cfm?nav1=2\">News &#038; Events<\/a>;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcaf.ch\/publications\/kms\/index.cfm?nav1=4\">Publications<\/a>;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcaf.ch\/service\/contact.cfm?navserv=2\">Contact<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcaf.ch\/about\/index.cfm?nav1=1\">About<\/a>: The Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) was established by the Swiss government in October 2000.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Centre works with governments and civil society to foster and strengthen the democratic and civilian control of security sector organisations such as police, intelligence agencies, border security services, paramilitary forces, and armed forces.<\/p>\n<p>To implement its objectives, the Centre:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8211; conducts research to identify the central challenges in democratic governance of the security sector, and to collect those practices best suited to meet these challenges;<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; provides support through advisory programmes and practical work assistance to all interested parties, most commonly to governments, parliaments, military authorities, and international organisations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>DCAF is an international foundation with 48 Member States (including the canton of Geneva). Their representatives compose the Foundation Council6. The Centre\u2019s primary consultative body, the International Advisory Board7, is composed of experts from the various fields in which the Centre is active. The staff8 numbers over 60 employees from more than 30 countries.
