In 1995 I moved from Germany to Burkina Faso, West Africa, in order to found a home for street boys. I called this very first house \u00ab\u00a0A.M.P.O.\u00a0\u00bb (Assocation Managr\u00e9 Nooma Pour la Protection des Orph\u00e9lins). \u00ab\u00a0Managr\u00e9 Nooma\u00a0\u00bb means Kindness is never forgotten in the country’s native language. I strongly believe in this saying until this day. From these small beginnings an organisation has developed, which is also called \u00ab\u00a0Kingdom of the poor\u00a0\u00bb within the population. All institutions have grown out of local necessities and have not been planned at the round table. We are exclusively financed by private contributions. We are small and efficient, and this is exactly how we want to stay! In this poor country it is still possible to help a lot with a little. Now about 150 girls and boys belong to our projects. Their age ranges from 6 to 18 years and they are orphans, half-orphans, abandoned children, and boys from the street – all live and learn together. What started as a small home, grew into a long term institution. Excerpt: … A loose network of c. 100-200 interested people is funding projects annually. Every year, a few volunteers travel to San\u00e9 at their own expenses and live in tents. Personal encounters trigger impulses and corrections on both sides. A lot has happened since. In cooperation with the local population, a school, housing for the teachers, a health post, a cereal bank and numerous parentages with local school children have been initiated. With the support of LAAFI, the health post has since been expanded to a bush hospital. LAAFI helped to fund the medical equipment and fixtures. In 1994, the later founders of LAAFI travelled to Burkina with Sascha and had the opportunity to get to know the village of San\u00e9 and its population. After the first visit to Burkina Faso, the idea was born to start a similar project – albeit with several differences – in Nabakoutou, a neighbouring village of San\u00e9. The current network of partners, cooperations and projects developed from this small start – the model of San\u00e9 has found imitators. (Read more on laafi cooperations<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Das Gute geht niemals verloren – in der Landessprache des westafrikanischen Staates Burkina Faso: Managre Nooma. So nannte die Deutsche Katrin Rhode ihr Waisenhaus, \u00fcber das S\u00fcddeutsche TV im November 1996 erstmals berichtete. Katrin Rhode lebt und arbeitet in einem der \u00e4rmsten L\u00e4nder der Welt. Sie gibt vielen eltern- und obdachlosen Kindern ein Zuhause in ihrem Heim f\u00fcr Waisenkinder.
\nVier Jahre sp\u00e4ter hat sich erneut ein Kamerateam von S\u00fcddeutsche TV auf den Weg in die Hauptstadt Ouagadougou gemacht. Dank zahlreicher Spenden konnte Katrin Rhode ihr Waisenhaus nicht nur vergr\u00f6\u00dfern, sondern auch eine Krankenstation und ein separates Heim f\u00fcr Stra\u00dfenjungen mit krimineller Vergangenheit er\u00f6ffnen. Vieles hat sich seit dem ersten Besuch ver\u00e4ndert, auch die Kinder von damals sind gro\u00df geworden: Sam Thoma, der seine geistesgest\u00f6rte Mutter jeden Sonntag m\u00fchsam suchte, um ihr seine 30 Pfennig Taschengeld zu geben. Er ist ein junger Mann geworden, der der Gemeinschaft nicht nur Freude bereitet. Aminata, ein von allen verlassenes M\u00e4dchen, ist heute der Stolz der Schule, weil sie den Mittelschul-Abschluss geschafft hat.
\nManagre Nooma existiert nur durch Hilfsbereitschaft und Spenden. S\u00fcddeutsche TV zeigt, wieviel Gutes mit relativ wenig Geld entsteht. (Siehe unter S\u00fcddeutsche TV<\/a>).<\/p>\n

(Excerpt in spanish): … Burkina Faso no es el S\u00e1hara, ni es Etiop\u00eda ni es Somalia. Aqu\u00ed la gente tiene, en el campo, los recursos para no morirse de hambre \u2013literalmente hablando\u2014, pero en la ciudad, Uagadug\u00fa, las cosas son distintas. Katrin Rohde se enfrentar\u00e1 a ni\u00f1os que consiguen pegamento para esnifar a un precio m\u00e1s barato que el pan; a ni\u00f1os que no han conocido el cari\u00f1o en su vida, y s\u00ed el trabajo; a ni\u00f1os desheredados por robar comida y que por ello han de vivir en la calle, donde est\u00e1n a mano de ladrones, asesinos, brujos que necesitan \u00f3rganos humanos para llevar a cabo sus rituales. Mama Tenga es el t\u00edtulo del libro pero tambi\u00e9n es el apelativo por el que Katrin es conocida en Burkina Faso, y su libro es un relato personal de una vida entregada a los dem\u00e1s, pero, sobre todo, es la historia de un pueblo por salir adelante y por ser feliz a pesar de sus circunstancias y su pobreza.
