About 2\/2<\/a>: … Poignantly, as the first channel of its kind anywhere in the world, the track that holds the honour of being the first to play on the ground-breaking station was \u2018Video Killed the Radio Star\u2019 by The Buggles. It was a prophetic choice given MTV\u2019s subsequent stratospheric ascendance as well as its immeasurable impact on youth culture across the globe.<\/p>\n

The innovative station has defined an entire generation, nicknamed the \u2018MTV Generation\u2019, and been a major player in creating some of the world\u2019s biggest superstars including Prince, Duran Duran, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and U2. But it\u2019s not just about music. MTV has also influenced how young people all over the world dress, think, and talk. It\u2019s given artists a forum for airing their political views and pushed society\u2019s boundaries.<\/p>\n

Now, the MTV phenomenon is in the Middle East. Launched in November 2007, MTV Arabia (MTVa) is owned by Dubai-based Arab Media Group, the biggest multimedia corporation in the UAE, in partnership with MTV International.<\/p>\n
